The George Condo

Whole Home Design | Santa Barbara, CA

A second home designed for a client with refined taste and a love of modern contemporary aesthetics. I provided full-service interior design including space planning, custom millwork design, kitchen renovation, finish selection, and furnishing curation. My role included creating detailed plans for built-in elements, coordinating structural changes with contractors, specifying materials and lighting, and integrating the client’s personal collection into the overall design.

Challenge

The client wanted his second home to reflect his personal style while incorporating cherished collected pieces. The existing space needed architectural interest and better flow, requiring both structural modifications and thoughtful custom elements to achieve the desired contemporary atmosphere.

Design Solution

I created a moody modern environment through bold design choices, curated elements and custom architectural details. We a wall to improve flow and built attractive new storage solutions that serve as focal points rather than afterthoughts. Custom built-in bookcases and wall details were designed to showcase the client’s personal style and collections.

The kitchen was completely refaced with a striking mix of bold finishes, and light elements, balancing drama with brightness. Throughout the space, I played with contrasts—intermixing straight architectural lines with curved forms in both built-ins and furnishings. New flooring unified the home, while carefully selected lighting emphasized the contemporary mood. Custom furniture pieces were designed to complement items the client had collected over the years, creating a cohesive, personal space that feels both curated and livable.
